What are bolis?
In Mexico and throughout Latin America, you might encounter an icy delight known as a bolis. It’s essentially a somewhat slushier version of ice cream that’s served in a tube versus on a stick or inside a cup. You’ll often encounter them sold on the side of the street, at parks, the malecón, and other public spaces where chiquillos (and the young at heart) might gather.

How do you eat a bolis?
This is totally up for debate but we believe there’s no wrong way to eat a bolis, so long as you enjoy it! The traditional way bolis are consumed in Mexico is tear one corner open and push little bits of the ice cream up to eat. That said, if you wanted to grab a pair of scissors and open up the top – you totally can. Again—every way to eat a bolis is the right way so long as it puts a smile on your face!
What’s the best bolis flavor?
It’s hard to pinpoint which flavor is the best, however, since that’s all a matter of preference. But here’s some details about each to help you decide which you might want to try out first:
- Piña Colada: This crowd pleaser is a great one to try first off, assuming you’re a fan of pineapple. Creamy and just a bit fruity, it’s a yummy blend that’s sure to delight.
- Coconut Bolis: If you’re a fan of tropical, coconutty sweets, you’re going to love this flavor. Made with real bits of coconut (and no artificial flavors), this one’s a big hit all around.
- Rompope Bolis: Pronounced “rohm – poh – peh”, rompope is typically enjoyed around the holidays, so you could technically wait until the right season to try this one. That said, we’re big on celebrating every day.
- Strawberry Bolis: This flavor is only available in our mini variety but oh so worth it! This crowd pleaser is a great one to try first off, assuming you’re a fan of fresa. Creamy and just a bit fruity, it’s a yummy blend that’s sure to delight.
